Axis Studios partnered with World Productions, in association with the BBC, to deliver over 140 detailed VFX shots for Season 2 of hit thriller series Vigil.

The second season follows DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) as they enter the world of drone warfare to catch a killer. Following multiple unexplained fatalities at a Scottish military facility, the pair are assigned to uncover the cause.

The Axis Studios team were tasked with delivering 145 shots spanning all 6 episodes by developing CG weapons drones, a range of military vehicles and enhancing the shot environments with digital matte paintings. All work needed to be completely photoreal to fit seamlessly into the shot footage and to match the production design and shooting style perfectly for the entirety of the series.

Axis’ VFX crew were embedded in the whole process, from the early stages of pre-production decisions regarding effects, to the shoot in Scotland and Morocco, all the way through to the collaborative and creative post-process. As a result, they were able to match the production design to seamlessly add scale and spectacle, whilst supporting the story-telling, which is at the heart of the audience’s response to this popular series.
